Getting Back to Gold

I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't take as long to write the training article as I did to write the banquet one. One of the key ideas we stressed this year at training was communication and keeping everyone informed on what is going on with our lodge. This past Saturday was our annual lodge training weekend. It is the first part of a four part program our lodge offers which includes training, two weekends, and the banquet to close out the year. I am very happy to report that close to 50 people attended this year's training weekend doubling the attendence of last year's event. The participants who attended this year discussed the history of our lodge, how to involve new members, how to implement the OA Rep program, the practice of brotherhood conversion and much much more. The participants also performed a service project for the camp. The day ended with a game of "Who Wants to be an OA Millionaire?" in which 4 contestants tested their knowledge of scouting and the OA by trying to answer 15 questions with the help of their three life lines. All 4 did an outstanding job in the hot seat as we had one answer all 15 correctly. Another had 14 correct where as the others answered 11 correct! Bully to those scouts! As the day ended I challenged everyone in the room to take what we discussed and bring it back to their troops, chapters, and ultimately our lodge. With the responses and enthusiasm I received from these brothers I expect to see great improvements to an already outstanding lodge. I encourage everyone who did not attend training this year to accept the challenge of making our lodge better by attending training next year. It's day full of fellowship, service, and gaining a deeper understanding of what the OA is really all about and how we can all make it better. Thank you to all who help make this event possible. Photos to added very soon.
